Message from the President
Harbourside Rotary in Victoria, BC, is part
of the worldwide family of over 31,000 rotary clubs in 165
countries with more than 1.2 million members all of whom are
dedicated to making the world a better place. We are a
global network of volunteers who provide humanitarian
service, encourage high ethical standards and help build
goodwill and peace in the world.
The global project and goal for Rotary since 1985 is to rid
the world of Polio. In addition, Harbourside Rotary is
involved with projects to supply fresh water
to communities in Honduras, microcredit for
rural women in Guatemala, books for a
school in northern India,
and other humanitarian projects.
Here in Victoria we are proud of our record in local
community programs providing funding and volunteer effort to
the Boys and Girls Club, the water
park at Beacon Hill Park, the
YMCA Camp Thunderbird, George Jay
School, the new Our Place building
on Pandora Avenue and for playground equipment at the
Victoria Women's Transition House shelter.
Harbourside Rotary also provides
Scholarships to those who have good grades,
demonstrated a commitment to the community and would
otherwise have difficulty obtaining a post secondary
education. We also promote Ambassadorial
scholarships for graduate students
and send young business people overseas on study groups to
learn and promote international understanding.
Our ninety plus members raise funds for these projects with
events such as Roses for Rotary, sale of
delicious Christmas cakes, an annual
Brunch & auction, our annual "Hoot"
dinner and auction, a gigantic garage sale,
and other spontaneous fund raisers. While we work hard, we
have a lot of fun.
Please take a moment to browse our website and learn more
about Harbourside. We are a very energetic club with a
passion for service, fellowship and fun. New members
are welcome, so please come and join us for
breakfast on any Wednesday morning at 7.00 AM at the Union
Club. We would be pleased to welcome you as our guest.
